Stockwin is first rate seafaring fare
...assuredly excellent Good Old Boat
Kydd,
the first in author Julian Stockwin series about the Napoleonic age of
sailing warships, offers a close-up view of what it was like to serve in
the British Navy of that day...ARTEMIS,
the second volume in the series ends with the most tragic of
consequences...there is little let-down between the two volumes as
Stockwin is able to weave a seamless tale of life before the mast. Sarasota Herald Tribune
This
is the second excellent colourful novel about press-ganged
wig-maker Thomas Paine Kydd's life as a common British sailor during
the Napoleonic Wars...An unexpected conclusion will leave you
clamouring for book three. In a word - super. Melbourne Herald Sun
This
is the triumphant sequel to the excellent KYDD...ARTEMIS is a page-turner full of adventure... Historical Novels Review
ARTEMIS builds
on the solid achievement of the much acclaimed KYDD; here
again is the same flinty characterisation, stunning narrative skills
and (most of all) considerable imaginative skill in evoking the
wind-lashed atmosphere of the best nautical novels: full of sharp
detail and keenly evoked atmosphere.

Ex-Navy
officer Stockwin's second novel is a rip-roaring yarn that
confirms [his publishers faith] in his ability to turn his vivid
knowledge of 18th century seafaring into first-rate global adventure. Publishing News
Salt spray and the aroma of
tarred rigging and powder-smoke fly off the pages, with readers likely
to be clamouring for SEAFLOWER, the next title in Kydds saga - even before they
have turned the final page of ARTEMIS. Tall Ships Books, George

The
book opens with a magnificent battle scene which matches or
exceeds anything that Kent or O'Brian has written...Julian Stockwin has
definitely written a place for himself in the seafaring tale genre. Nelson in Victoria

dialect and seagoing argot aplenty add credibility to the
adventure and the unworldly Kydd is an apt lens for the readers
journey. Fans of naval adventure will surely continue to follow the
series. Publishers Weekly
Likable Tom and his shipmates
make a snug fit in that page-turning Forester and O'Brian tradition -
thanks to retired Royal Navy author Stockwin. Kirkus Review
REPORTS FROM READERS A
brief note of thanks for your
great writing...equally as good as O'Brian and Forester. CP
I have yet to read a fictional rounding of the Horn that was as
descriptive, passionate, frightening and inspiring as Stockwin's
account in ARTEMIS. I enjoyed this book a great deal, and regret only
that I have to wait another year for book 3 in the series. NB
One
of the best series afloat.
I've read them all (Kent, Pope, Lambdin, O'Brian, Nelson, etc.) and
this new series rates right up there with the best. Can't wait for the
next instalment. DW
For
those who
were concerned whether ARTEMIS
would live up to the promise of
KYDD, let
me put those worries at rest: ARTEMIS
is a strong second volume in what promises
to be an enthralling series. DR
I
enjoyed ARTEMIS immensely...and am left wanting the next adventure.
GD
Received ARTEMIS
in Fridays mail, finished it
early this evening, Monday. Excellent, really excellent read!
BW
Have just finished ARTEMIS
in three sittings. I enjoyed
the narrative and the blossoming of Kydd's maturity both as a seaman
and a man of the world...the only disappointment in the Kydd saga is
that your readership has to wait another year for further adventures.
KD
I
really enjoyed KYDD
- and ARTEMIS
has lived up to my expectations!!
MD
The reader is intoxicated with the language, sea salt and gunsmoke...this
second novel is even better than the first. CC
